HOCUS
POCUS
Harry Potter has taken over! We asked Fiona Horne to whip up some spells, plus added our own guide to all things Harry.
Release Your Inner Witch/Wizard
Witches work their magic using the power of the sacred natural elements - air, earth, fire and water. The most important thing to understand is that these awesome powers exist inside as well as outside of us. To start honing our powers, do this magical mediatation every morning (or at night before you go to bed if you're always running late for school!).
You will need: » 1 candle (if you're not aloowed to burn candles inside, use it unlit) » 1 amethyst crystal » i stick of incense (you could also use a feather) » 1 bowl of water
Hold the crystal in both hands (this is earth), and meditate on its grounding energies. Next, stir your index finger in the bowl of water (this represents emotion and beauty). Now hold the candle (fire - potent and powerful) and feel its exciting energy rush through your veins. Then, fan the incense of or feather (air), representing new beginnings. Finally, realise that you have the power to make your life whatever you want it to be.
Smarty Pants Potion
Hermione's specialty is potions, so here's one to drink in the morning before a test. It will help you to make the right decisions and make you wise like Dumbledore (as long as you did enough study, of course!).
You will need: » 2 teaspoons grape concentrate (available at all good health food stores) » 1½ cups of sparkling spring water » 2 drops of mint extract (also available from health food stores) » 1 sprig of rosemary (to stir)
Mix the first three ingredients together in a tall glass, and then stir them with the rosemary as you chant:
"My skills are good
my knowldge great,
the results I want
are mine to take."
Kiss the glass and then drink the potion. Grapes improve concentration, rosemary stimulates the memory and mint keeps you alert. Chanting fills the potion with magic. Spells work with your intent, so concentrate and focus all your power into your potion for the best results.
How To Make A Magic Wand
Wands represent the element of air, and can be used to conjure up new realities. it's best to make your own wand so it's in tune with your energies and goals. Here's how...
» Just before the moon is full, cut a twig from a tree
- about 30cms long and as thick as your index finger.
» The next day, strip the bark away and smooth with sandpaper.
Rub with a few drops of frankincense, sandalwood or lavender essential oil.
Cut one end flat, and using leather thonging or cord bind am amethyst crystal
to this end. Paint circles of blue and white below the crystal to represent
and goodness. You can tie feathers around its middle to represent air and paint
on magical symbols with a glitter pen.
» To charge your wand, hold it in both hands while sitting
under a full moon and say:
"This wand is mine
with magic skill,
with harm to none
I wield my will."
» Keep it wrapped in a white or silver cloth when not in use.
